My Favorite Ice Cream and Creemee Stop!

 6035  Route 17W,  Addison
( just down the road from the bridge to New York)

This is a summer must for me and a high recommendation for a visitor to Addison.

So, what I really needed was a picture of a Goodies' famous creemee.  However, maybe I'd spoil the fun of the surprise of how big they are!  Order a large ( just do it) you'll see what I mean.

A Small Green Mountain Sundae. $3.97

I just can't seem to break away from the Green Mountain Sundae!  It's made with a homemade chocolate and mint fudgy brownie, tuns of mint ice cream, hot fudge, cherry and nuts. My husband and I usually order it with chocolate creemee instead of the ice cream.  It's great either way!

Happy Summer!

Another Garlic Scape Arrangement!

I've never seen this or thought of it until Audra sent me a picture a few weeks ago and I posted it. Last week my mother in law had made one too.  It's such a neat idea!

 A Two Room School House.

No, this is not a picture from the 1940's.  This is a school picture of my husband's two room, Ripton Elementary School around 1988.  K-3 grade shared this building which now serves as the town clerks office.  A new elementary building was built and finished in 1989, about a mile away, which now houses PK-6...there are three classrooms.

A lot of the small town schools are disappearing in Vermont.  Right now, the town's people are trying to save Ripton's little school.  They are trying to attracted students from the near by townships that have already lost their schools...time will tell....times are changing...slower here then in most parts.

Do you have any pictures of when you where growing up in Vermont?

Pesto!

A taste of summer!  I have a very simple recipe for pesto that I made up.  It doesn't have any nuts in it and it makes an excellent base for many recipes.  Here it is.....

Combine in a food processor:

4 Cups Basil
1/2 cup olive oil
1 tsp garlic powder (2 crushed garlic cloves)
1 tsp salt
cracked pepper to taste
5 oz goat cheese

yields about 1 1/2 cups of creamy pesto

To freeze, I just put a cup in a freezer bag and seal.

The pesto is great for a pizza base!  Also, sometimes I cut the pesto with Greek yogurt and add it to hot pasta.  It makes for a very creamy pesto pasta. - Add in some artichokes and Greek olives...maybe some grilled shrimp...

* My friend Kylie lived in Vermont for almost ten years.  When she moved back to Maine, her Dad said that Kylie  "Vermont-ified " everything by adding goat cheese to it!  I think he has a point.*

Do you have any ideas for pesto?

Check out this Garlic Scape Center Piece!

My friend Audra from the Stowe area, sent this fun and unusual idea for  a center piece.  It's seasonal, useful and beautiful all at the same time.  It's a like having a little sculpture on the table.

Do you have any ideas how to use garlic scapes while cooking?
